Video: Time-lapse movie of Jupiter's Red Spot, 1979
Image from Voyager 1 video of Jupiter's Red Spot

As NASA's Voyager 1 approached Jupiter during a fly-by in 1979, it took images of the planet at regular intervals. The resulting sequence, shown here, is clear evidence of the dynamic nature of the Jovian atmosphere.

The movie was made from 66 images taken once every Jupiter rotation period (about 10 hours). One image was taken every time Jupiter's Great Red Spot passed under the spacecraft.
