Planetary nebulas are given names that describe their shapes. What name would you give each of these nebulas? Be prepared to explain your choices.
Answer:

Student answers will vary. Nebula He 2-47 looks a little like a butterfly or a moth. Perhaps students may say it looks like a fairy. Nebula NGC 5315 resembles a flower. Nebula IC 4593 looks like a lighted top spinning at an angle. Nebula NGC 5307 is more difficult to characterize. Some students may look at the image and see a frog or a fish's open mouth. Others might see a pirate's skull and cross bones.
