- Hubble has captured many beautiful celestial images over its lifetime. A few of the more notable ones are collected in "A Hubble Gallery," found here: http://amazing-space.stsci.edu/gallery/. Take a few minutes to observe these objects. Be prepared to discuss which one is your favorite, and why.
Student answers will vary. Some students will decide the Hubble Deep Field is their favorite because it contains thousands of galaxies in varying shapes and colors. Others might vote for the interacting galaxies image, due to its resemblance to a rose. The Carina Nebula contains a wide range of colors and some fascinating objects that herald the birth of stars. The top of "Mystic Mountain" in the Carina Nebula, for example, has streamers of gas flowing from opposite ends. The streamers were expelled from young stars buried deep within the mountain of gas. The Orion Nebula, located in the prominent winter constellation Orion, contains the closest star-birth region to Earth.
